RCTC Dominates Anoka-Ramsey in Straight Sets on Sophomore Night
Rochester Community and Technical College celebrated its sophomore class in style Wednesday night with a commanding 3-0 sweep over Anoka-Ramsey Community College at the Performance Court. The #3-ranked Yellowjackets showed why they're among the top teams in the country, dispatching the Golden Rams in straight sets: 25-14, 25-15, and 25-16.
From the opening serve, RCTC controlled the tempo, showcasing a balanced attack and disciplined defense. Hansen finished the night with a team-high 10 kills and a stellar .533 hitting percentage, while LaBonte added 8 kills on .400 hitting.
Setter Carmen Nerison ran the show, dishing out 34 assists and adding 6 service aces to her stat line. Her connection with hitters like Lily Holtan, who tallied 8 kills, and Kylie Minnich, who contributed 6 kills on .375 hitting, kept Anoka-Ramsey's defense on its heels.
Defensively, RCTC was equally dominant. Carly Matthees led the team with 9 digs, while Jayda Bednarek and Minnich anchored the back row with 7 digs apiece. The Yellowjackets also recorded 2 solo blocks and limited errors, committing just 6 attack errors across three sets.
The victory was especially meaningful as RCTC honored its sophomores—who have been instrumental in the program's success. Their leadership and performance were on full display, making the night a memorable one for players, coaches, and fans alike.
With the win, RCTC improves its record to 19-7 overall and 13-1 in the conference and builds momentum heading into postseason play. The Yellowjackets will look to carry this energy forward into the final regular season weekend.
