Chad Schmitz stepped into his coaching career with the Yellowjackets in the 2023–24 season as Assistant Head Coach, playing a key role in the team’s remarkable journey to the National Championship Tournament. Promoted to Head Coach for the 2024–25 season, he brings a deep well of experience and a passion for the game that spans nearly two decades.

 

Since 2008, Schmitz has coached at the youth, high school, and club levels in both softball and baseball, building a reputation for his strategic insight and commitment to player development. His coaching journey began in central Minnesota with his sons’ baseball teams and his own participation in softball. After relocating to the Rochester area, he began coaching his daughter’s softball team—an experience that ignited a lasting passion for coaching.

 

Driven by a desire to understand the game from every angle, Schmitz immersed himself in studying strategy and rules, even becoming a certified umpire to gain a broader perspective. This unique combination of coaching and officiating experience gives him a well-rounded view of the game’s nuances and dynamics.

 

Off the field, Schmitz is a seasoned operations manager with both an MBA and MHA, demonstrating strong leadership and analytical skills. He lives in Stewartville with his wife, children, and dogs. In his free time, he enjoys the outdoors, cooking, and cheering on his favorite sports teams. His balanced approach to life—grounded in family, career, and a love for coaching—makes him a dedicated and inspiring leader for the Yellowjackets.
