Jackets roll to 3-0 victory over Western Tech

Rochester, MN - The RCTC Yellowjackets rolled to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-8) win over the Cavaliers of Wetern Tech on the Performance Court tonight.  The Jackets are now-3-2 overall and 1-0 in MCAC play. 

The Jackets got out to a quick start in set one leading 10-2 before cruising to the 25-17 win, it was more of the same in set two where the Jackets lead 19-9 before a string of hitting errors gave the Cavaliers a 6-0 run to make it 19-15.  From there it was all RCTC as they scored 6 of the next 8 points for the win.  RCTC played their best set of the night in the third putting down 15 kills against only 2 errors and hitting .448 for the set in winning 25-8.

The Jackets were lead defensively by Libero Jayda Bednarek.  The sophomore from Marshall, MN had 24 digs (8.0 digs per set) to lead all players.  Kylie Minnich joined Bednarek in double figures with 10 digs, whil Ava Jacobsen added 5.

Carmen Nerison directed the offense with 36 assists on the night.  Nerison added a pair of kills, 4 digs, and a block.  Leading the offensive attack was Lily Holtan, a Rochester Mayo grad, with 12 kills.  Kylie Minnich had 9 kills and Natalie LaBonte had 7 kills and hit a stellar .357.  Carly Matthees added 7 kills of her own.  The Jackets had 8 ace serves in the match with Holtan and Ashlyn Pelant serving up 3 each.

RCTC steps out of conference play this weekend as they head south to Fort Dodge, IA for the Iowa Central Tournament.  The Jackets will be back on their home court next Wednesday as they host conference foe Century College at 6:30pm.
