RCTC soccer drops non-conference game to Saint Mary's

Rochester, MN - The RCTC Yellowjacket women's soccer team fell at the Stadium 6-1 to the JV of Saint Mary's University on Wednesday night.  The Cardinals got off to a quick start scoring twice in the first 10 minutes before leading 3-0 with 7 minutes remaining in the first half.  At the 38 minute mark RCTC's Mila Van Der Velde tallied her 19th goal of the season on a strike to the upper left corner of the net.  RCTC trailed 3-1 at the break.

The second half was competitive throughout with Saint Mary's scoring three times, onceon a long range shot from 40 yards out.  RCTC goalkeeper Miley Dostal finished with a career high 14 saves on 20 shots faced, while the Jackets managed 3 shots in the game.  Despite the loss, RCTC coach Eliott Chapman talked about the importance of playing a good team heading into the post-season.  The Jackets play their final regular season game of the year on Saturday, a conference match-up between Alexandira Tech at 3:00pm at the Rochester Regional Stadium.

RCTC has already secured the #1 seed and the right to host the Regional Tournament next week.  The Jackets will host the Wildcats of NDSCS on Wednesday, with kick-off at 6:00pm.  With a win, the Jackets will host the Region final a week from Saturday against the winner of Anoka-Ramsey and Alex Tech.
