Jackets roll to North Plains District Title with 116 points and nine individual champions

Itasca, MN - The RCTC Yellowjackets advanced nine wrestlers to the NJCAA National Championships and rolled to the North Plains District Title on Sunday.  The Jackets Andy Hackenmueller was named District Coach of the Year, while Heavyweight Citto Tuttle was named North Plains District Wrestler of the Year.  The Jackets scored 116 points, outpacing second place Northland who scored 47 to finish second. 

RCTC's tournament got off to a great start as Ryan Tschetter won his title match 12-2 by major decision.  At 133 pounds Robert Wicks won his title bout by a narrow 7-6 decision to qualify for the NJCAA meet.  After Jake Aho won the 141 championship match by forfeit the Jackets got a big win by fall at 149 by Gunnar Johnson to give the Jackets four qualifiers in the first four weight classes. 

After the only blip on the Jackets championship radar at 157, Kley Krause dominated his title match at 165 with a tech fall win by a score of 19-4.   Vinny Alm kept the Jackets rolling with a title match win by fall at 2:04 of the first period at 174.  At 184 Deangelo Sardina earned a 5-1 win over the #1 seed from Ridgewater to secure his title and a bid to the national tournament.  Sonnie Deheer earned the Jackets 8th individual title dominating his opening match 16-0 before winning a narrow 1-0 win in the title match at 197.

In the final class of the tournament Citto Tuttle, while leading 12-1 earned a fall in his title match at 285 to secure his second straight invitation to the NJCAA Championships.

The Jackets next will wrestle in the 2026 NJCAA Championships March 6-7 at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, IA.
