RCTC Softball Earns Road Split at Anoka‑Ramsey in Southern Division Matchup
Rochester Community and Technical College softball came away with a hard‑fought split on Sunday, April 12, at Anoka‑Ramsey Community College, dropping a tight opener 4–3 before rebounding with a convincing 5–2 victory in the nightcap of a Southern Division doubleheader.
Game One: Anoka‑Ramsey 4, RCTC 3
The opener was a pitchers' duel early, with RCTC's Alyssa Knudson and Anoka‑Ramsey's Cordelia Johnson battling through the first three innings. The Golden Rams struck first in the bottom of the first, plating a run without a hit to take a 1–0 lead.
Anoka‑Ramsey added the decisive runs in the fourth inning, stringing together four hits to push across three runs and extend the advantage to 4–0. RCTC settled in defensively from there, as Zoey Clark came on in relief and shut the door, holding the Rams scoreless over the final 2.1 innings while striking out three.
The Yellowjackets offense came alive late. RCTC scratched a run across in the sixth when Gigi Lundi delivered a clutch RBI, and the visitors made things tense in the seventh. Ella Bergan and KK Hemming set the table, and Jayda Bednarek drove in a run to pull RCTC within one. The Yellowjackets had the tying run aboard but ultimately left it stranded as Anoka‑Ramsey held on for the narrow win.
Ella Bergan reached base four times, finishing with a hit and three walks, while Bednarek and Lundi each drove in runs for RCTC. Cordelia Johnson earned the win despite allowing just one earned run while striking out 10.
Game Two: RCTC 5, Anoka‑Ramsey 2
RCTC responded immediately in game two, riding strong pitching and timely hitting to even the series. The Yellowjackets opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning, highlighted by a balanced offensive attack. Anoka‑Ramsey answered with two runs of its own in the bottom half to tie the contest at 2–2, but that would be the last offense the Rams generated.
Amelie Dohlman gave the Jackets a solis startallowing only 2 runs before Zoey Clark took over, tossing five shutout innings while allowing just two hits and striking out five. Ella Bergan delivered a standout performance with a double and two RBI, while Michaela Cauffman went 3‑for‑3 with a double and two runs scored. KK Hemming added two hits and scored twice, and Alyssa Knudson chipped in with a hit and a stolen base.
Defensively, RCTC capitalized on Anoka‑Ramsey miscues, as the Rams committed three errors in the nightcap while the Yellowjackets stayed composed late to secure the road victory.
The Jackets next square of against MN West at home on Tuesday. The two teams played back on March 31st, splitting the two game series in Worthington.
