Ridgewater down RCTC in high-scoring conference affair 101-90

Ridgewater College 101, Rochester Community and Technical College 90
January 17, 2026 — Willmar, MN

Ridgewater College protected its home floor on Saturday afternoon with a fast-paced 101–90 win over Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC), using efficient scoring and balanced guard play to outlast the Yellowjackets in a high‑octane matchup. The Warriors improved to 13–3 overall and 2–1 in conference play, while RCTC dropped to 9–9 and 1–2 in league action.

Ridgewater set the tone early, shooting a blistering 57.1% from the field and building a 49–41 halftime lead. Their offensive rhythm was anchored by the trio of DeAndre Holloway, Tyrese Mayo, and Brenton McKinney, who combined for 65 of the Warriors' 101 total points. Holloway was dominant in the paint, finishing with 24 points on an efficient 10‑for‑13 shooting while adding seven rebounds and six blocks, constantly disrupting RCTC attempts around the rim.

Mayo provided the outside punch, knocking down four threes on his way to 23 points. His ability to penetrate the lane and draw contact (5‑for‑6 FT) created matchup problems all afternoon. McKinney added 18 points and five assists, pushing the tempo and helping Ridgewater maintain offensive flow, even when RCTC made second‑half runs.

Rochester's offense was far from stagnant, putting up 90 points and shooting 46.3% from the floor, but defensive lapses and difficulty stopping Ridgewater's inside‑outside balance proved costly. Sophomore guard Brandon Wilson was the standout for the Yellowjackets, pouring in a game‑high 22 points off the bench on an efficient 10‑of‑16 shooting, including a perfect 2‑for‑2 from beyond the arc. His spark helped RCTC remain within striking distance throughout the second half.

Alongside him, Carson Brown filled the stat sheet with 19 points, seven rebounds, and a team‑high nine assists, serving as Rochester's primary playmaker. Charlie Morning added 12 points and three steals, while forward Tycen Vig battled inside for eight rebounds.

Despite the strong individual efforts, RCTC couldn't overcome Ridgewater's high-powered offense. The Warriors not only shot 40‑for‑70 from the field but also moved the ball extremely well, recording 22 assists on their 40 made baskets. Their defensive activity—13 steals and seven blocks—keyed their offense.

RCTC's three‑point shooting (9‑of‑20, 45%) kept them in the game, especially during a stretch midway through the second half when Wilson and Brown combined to cut the deficit to single digits. However, Ridgewater answered every push, often through Mayo's shot‑making or Holloway's interior finishes. Free‑throw differential also played a role: Ridgewater earned 19 attempts to Rochester's 10, capitalizing late to keep the margin steady.

The Jackets next face MN West on the road on Wednesday before returning home on Saturday to take on MN State-Fergus Falls in a 2:00pm tip-off
