Rochester, MN - In the RCTC women's soccer team's final regular season game of the season the Yellowjackets played the regular season champion Anoka Ramsey Golden Rams to a 1-1 tie. In an intense game under the lights at the Rochester Regional Stadium, the Yellowjackets got on the board first at 9 minutes of the first half. Mae Litschauer tucked in her own rebound to give RCTC the 1-0 lead at the break.
The second half was a battle of attrition as both teams had few opportunities to score early, as the game was controlled in the midfield. A Jacket hand ball in the penalty box gave Anoka the chance they needed, as Liberty Morrice-Bart calmly converted the penalty kick to tie the game in the 70th minute. Both teams had only a couple of quality scoring chances for the remainder of the game and through the two 10 minute overtime sessions.
Fatima Sanchez Hernandez kept the game tied with an outstanding effort in goal saving 20 of the 21 shots she faced. Anoka goalkeeper Rebekah Anderson also did her part to keep the Yellowjackets off the board for the final 101 minutes of the game.
RCTC will host Lake Superior College in the first round of the NJCAA Region XIII tournament on October 17th at the Regional Stadium. Game time is still to be determined. The winner of the first round contest will take on the winner of the ANoka Ramsey vs MN West game for the opportunity to move onto the District Tournament.
