RCTC Yellowjackets Place Ten at the Auggie-Adidas Invite

This past weekend the Rochester Community and Technical College wrestling team competed in the Augsburg College Auggie-Adidas Invite wrestling tournament.

The Jackets had a great day of wrestling placing ten individuals in the tournament.

RCTC Yellowjackets Alexander Lloyd (Shakopee, MN) had another successful tournament going 4-0 placing 1st in the 157 Gold bracket. Alex began the day with a fall over Anthony Metallo of Platteville in 1:30. He then won by decision over Nolan Hertel of UW-LaCrosse 9-5.  In the semis Lloyd majored Patrick Boylanger of St. Mary 17-3.  His final match of the day came against #3 NCAA D3 ranked Grant Zamin of UW-LaCrosse.  Lloyd secured a final takedown in the closing seconds of the match to win 5-3.  Alex is currently 14-1 this season and ranked #6 in the NJCAA.  

Seth Brossard (Kenyon, MN) had another great week of wrestling improving his record to 14-4 this season. Seth started the day with a 17-4 major decision over Alexander Thompson of Morningside.  In his second round he received a medical forfeit, which moved him into the semi-finals.  In the semis Brossard recorded his ninth pin of the season with a fall in 5:10 over Josh Verbeten of Augsburg.  In the finals Seth lost to 2x NCAA D3 National Champ Ryan Epps of Augsburg.  Seth is currently ranked #8 in the NJCAA.

Gavin Christoffersen (So. St. Paul, MN) went 3-1 on the day placing 2nd in the 174 Silver bracket.  Gavin put together three straight wins to advance to the finals.  In the finals Gavin lost a close match of Bentley Schwanebeck-Ostermann of Augsburg 9-8.      

Rich Hammonds (Anoka, MN) wrestling Unattached won his second tournament of the season by defeating Lorenzo Hernandez of Augsburg in the finals 8-3 in the 197 Silver bracket.  A bigger win on the day for Hammonds was avenging his one loss on the season by outwrestling Donovan Com of Luther 2-1 in an earlier round of the tournament.  Richie is currently 10-1 on the season.

The Yellowjackets are off for Thanksgiving and will pick up wrestling at the Buena Vista Open in Storm Lake, IA on December 7th. Wrestling starts at 9:00 AM.
