Rochester, MN - With mother nature bearing down on Minnesota later this week the RCTC women's softball team took advantage of a "warm-ish" day to play their first home outdoor game in over two years. The home field proved to be very accomodating for the Yellowjackets as they scored 34 runs in their double header sweep of Riverland CC.
In game one RCTC pushed across 13 runs, but it was pitcher Hailee Stock who stole the show, shutting out the Blue Devils and allowing only 3 hits while striking out 5 in the contest. Cassie Voth went 4-4 in the game with an RBI, two doubles and 3 runs scored. Reigning MCAC player of the week Abi Folkert had 3 hits, scored twice and drove in two more, while Katie Pearson was 2-3 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI's. In all the Yellowjackets punded out 14 hits 5 of which were doubles, and a triple by Mattie Hellerud.
With the wind blowing out, game two continued to be an offensive show, as the Jackets had another 18 hits in winning 21-6. Katie Pearson continued her fantastic day at the plate going 3-4 with 6 RBI's and a homerun in game two. The 6 RBI gave her 9 for the day. Abby Bauer was 4-4 with 4 RBI and 2 doubles, while Mattie Hellerud hit her 3rd homerun on the season, went 3-4 with 5 RBI. Makenzie Swanson-Larson added 3 RBI, and Abi Folkert had 2. Hailee Stalock again went the distance (5 innings) for the win.
RCTC is next scheduled, weather permitting to play on the road at Ridgewater and MN State-Fergus Falls this weekend.
