Jackets get back on track with 75-74 win over Ridgewater

Rochester, MN - In a back and forth game against the Warriors of Ridgewater on Saturday the RCTC Yellowjackets stunned the visitors in a 75-74 win.  Sophomore Antonio Maddox had 13 points and Kong Kong had 10, but both played a part in the Jackets late game heroics to seal the win.

Despite only shooting 34% in the first half, the Jackets lead 36-34 at the break.  The half featured 8 point leads by both teams as neither could take control of the contest.  Mickey Jah had 7 first half points while Kong Kong had 9 rebounds.  In the second half both teams shot 45% but it was Ridgewater that built a 10 point lead halfway through the period.

In the final 5 minutes the Jackets slowly crawled back into the game until they took the lead with under a minute to go.  Trailing 72-70 Ridgewater got a 3-pointer from Dillon Henderson with 48 seconds remaining to take the 73-72 lead.  The Jackets then got two open looks with around 20 seconds remaning, missing on both, and then were forced to foul.  Ridgewater's Travis Visser made one of two from the line giving the Warriors a two point lead with 9 seconds remaining.  From there it was Kong and Maddox's turn to take over.  After the missed free throw, Kong got the rebound and went coast to coast to score and tie the game at 74.  It looked like overtime was in the cards, but enter Maddox as he stole the inbound pass, got into the lane, and was fouled with 2 tenths of a second remaining on the clock.

Stepping to the line in a one and one situation, Maddox knocked down the first, and then missed the second intentionally to seal the win for RCTC.  Maddox said later, "I thought it was two shots and not one and one, I am glad I didn't know that, it took some pressure off of me thinking I had two attempts to make one."

RCTC had four players score in double figures.  Maddox and Mickey Jah each had 13, Ray Adams poured in 11 and Kong Kong added 10.  Kong had 16 rebounds to lead all players, whil he and Jah each had 5 assists.

RCTC is back in action, taking on Divisional foe Riverland on the road, Wednesday, January 15th.  The Jackets are then back on their home court Saturday, January 18th against St. Cloud Technical and Community College.  Tipoff for that game is at 3:00pm.
