RCTC drops Central Lakes to advance to Region title game

Coon Rapids, MN - The RCTC Yellowjackets ran their win streak to 12 and advanced to the Region Title game with an 83-80 win over Central Lakes today.  The Jackets got a double double from Kong Kong and had four players in double figures on the night.

Kong, lead all scorers with 22 points and had 12 rebounds.  Joining the Mankato sophomore in double figures were Jerome Cunningham (17), Devin Melzer (14), and Ray Adams (13).  The Jackets shot 48% from the floor and knocked down 23-30 free throws to close out the #1 seed out of the North.

RCTC outrebounded the Raiders 38-29 and held CLC 20 44% shooting including only 5-22 from beyond the arc.  Perhaps the most impressive part of the Jackets night was the work of Devin Melzer and Keonte Williams who teamed up to hold CLC star and All-State performer Tyree'on Johnson to 12 points on only 3-7 shotting from the field.

The win sets up a showdown between the top two seeds in the south (St. Cloud and RCTC), for the Region title and a berth in the NJCAA DIII National Championship Tournament.  The Jackets and Cyclones split their season series, with each winning on the opponents home court.  St. Cloud dropped RCTC 80-63 on January 20th, while the Jackets returned the favor in a 110-101 double overtime win on February 8th.

Tip-off is set for 5:00 on Sunday at Anoka-Ramsey.
