Rochester, MN - The RCTC Yellowjackets men's basketball team ran their record to 6-1 by winning two against the MCAC Northern Division this weekend. In game one on Friday night the Yellowjackets downed Vermillion CC 83-69, before outlasting Mesabi Range in the second game 73-63.
Game one saw the Jackets get two strong offensive performances as Kong Kong poured in 22 points on 9-16 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds, and Ray Adams scored a season high 20 points on 8-12 shooting. The Jackets Karmoga Lero added 9 and Jerome Cunningham was a perfect 4-4 for 8 points on the night. RCTC shot 57% in the game while holding Vermillion to 37%. VCC knocked down 11 3 pointers to keep themselves in the game, but 17 turnovers proved to be too much to overcome, as the Jackets closed the game out hitting 10-13 free throws.
Game two against Mesabi saw neither team taking advantage of a rough shooting day for the opponent. The Jackets won by 10 despite shooting only 41% from the floor. Mesabi Range also hit on 41% of their shots. The difference in the contest came on the boards as RCTC outrebounded MR 42-30 (including 15-7 on the offensive glass).
RCTC had an extremely balanced scoring day as 5 players scored 8 or more points, lead by Ray Adams' 16 and Kong Kong's 14 points. Mickey Jah added 11 points while Antonio Maddox had 9 and Ben Jackson added 8. Kong lead the way on the glass with 8 rebounds while Adams had 7 and Jackson, Maddox, and Jerome Cunningham each had 6.
Kong had 5 blocks on the day as well as adding 3 steals. William Howard lead the way for Mesabi with 25 points.
RCTC is now on the road for the next 7 games beginning with Northland at 7:30 on Friday December 13th. The Jackets next home contest will be on Saturday January 11th against Ridgewater.
