RCTC gets balanced effort in downing Hibbing 98-75

Coon Rapids, MN - The RCTC Yellowjackets had to wait until the final game of the first round to take the court in the Region XIII Tournament at Anoka-Ramsey today.  Once they got their chance to step on the floor they proved they were ready for the moment as they took control midway through the first half in dropping Hibbing CC 98-75 in the quarterfinal round.  The Jackets (23-5) will now take on the Northern Division #1 seed Central Lakes in the semifinals tomorrow night at 6:00pm.  The Raiders won their quarterfinal game against Ridgewater to set-up the showdown with the Jackets.

RCTC had an extremely balanced offensive night as they had five players score in double figures.  Leading the way for the Jackets were All-State performers Ray Adams with 19 points and Kong Kong with 18.  Joining the pair in double figures were Jerome Cunningham (13), Devin Melzer (12), and Karmoga Lero (10). Keonte Williams and Kong lead the way on the boards with 9 rebounds a piece.  Ray Adams added 5 steals to his 19 points to lead the Jackets.

RCTC shot 51% on the night and knocked down 21-28 free throw attempts.  Hibbing, on the other hand, shot only 43% from the floor and were 11-18 from the line.  The Jackets forced 21 Cardinal turnovers and outrebounded Hibbing 46-33.

The Jackets and CLC Raiders will play in the second semifinal contest tomorrow night.  In the opening semi, Riverland will take on Southern Division Champion St. Cloud at 4:00. All four teams remaining in the tournament are ranked in the NJCAA DIII poll:

RCTC #5

St. Cloud #9

Central Lakes #11

Riverland #12

The winner of the Region XIII Tournament will secure a bid to the NJCAA National Championships March 11th-14th hosted by Rochester Sports and RCTC.  The other three teams will have to wait to see if they have done enough to earn one of four "at large" berths into the tournament.
