Austin, MN - The RCTC Yellowjackets, fresh off of a thrilling 75-74 win over Ridgewater, hit the road to Austin to take on the #10 ranked Blue Devils of Riverland CC. Despite an 11-0 run to start the game the Yellowjackets couldn't stop the Blue Devils high-powered offense as Riverland scored 56 points in the second half enroute to the 93-83 win.
In a tale of two halves, the two teams held each other in check for most of the first half, with Riverland taking a 37-33 lead into the break. In the second half the offenses got on track as both the Devils and Jackets scored more than 50 points. For the game RCTC shot the ball at 44% clip while Riverland shot only 42%. The big differences in the loss for RCTC were only 18% shooting from beyond the arc (Riverland hit at a 30% pace), and only 10-16 from the line (Riverland was 22-26).
The Jackets got another big game from Kong Kong, as the sophomore went 9-11 for 19 points and added 13 rebounds and 3 blocks. Mickey Jah lead the way in scoring for RCTC as he was 7-17 for 20 points. Joining Kong and Jah in double figures were Ray Adams with 14, and Antonio Maddox with 10.
Riverland had 5 players in double figures, lead by Terrell Smith with 20.
The Jackets schedule doesn't get any easier as they host undefeated and 6th ranked St. Cloud Technical and Community College this Saturday on the Performance Court. Gametime is set for 3:00, but with weather rolling in for the state beginning on Friday, look for possible game time changes.
