Willmar, MN - The RCTC Yellowjackets and Ridgewater Vikings played in Rochester back on January 11th and on that night, it took a late steal and free throw at the buzzer by Antonio Maddox for the Jackets to secure the win. Saturdays game in Willmar was nearly identical as #24 Ray Adams hit a baseline jumper at the buzzer to give RCTC the 78-76 win. The game, which was criticial to both teams playoff chase was a back and forth affair throughout as RCTC built a 43-38 lead at the half.
In the second half neither team lead by more than 6 points and the Jackets lead by 4 with just over 3 minutes to go. The Vikings got a jump shot from Travis Henderson with 3:00 to go to cut the lead to two, 74-72. The Jackets then got a jumper with 2 minutes to go to lead 76-72. Henderson then hit back to back shots (one with 16 seconds remaning) to tie the game. After a timeout, Adams got the ball on the baseline for RCTC, squared up and hit as the clock expired to secure the 78-76 win.
RCTC (16-5, 5-3), shot 43% from the floor and were lead by Karmoga Lero's 17 points off the bench. Kong Kong hit for 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Jerome Cunningham had 14 and Adams had 12, including the game winner.
The Yellowjackets controlled the glass on the night outrebounding the Vikings 42-27. Almost every other statistical category was a toss-up as Ridgewater shot 46% from the floor.
The Yellowjackets begin the stretch run to the post-season this Wednesday night, as they take on Western Tech. Tip-off is set for 7:00 on the Jackets home floor.
