Jackets hold on for 21st win of the year

Coon Rapids, MN - The RCTC Yellowjackets continued their winning ways on Wednesday night as they went on the road and downed Anoka-Ramsey CC by the score of 102-95.  The win was RCTC's 9th straight as they moved their record to 21-5 (10-3 in the MCAC). The loss dropped Anoka to 11-15 overall and 4-9 in the league.

RCTC got off to a fast start as they controlled the first half and built a 47-30 lead at the break.  The Rams refused to go away in the second half as both teams opened things up on the offensive end.  Anoka outscored RCTC 65-55 in the second half, but it wasn't quite enough to overcome the halftime deficit.

Anoka closed the gap to 95-92 with only 51 seconds remaining in the game on a Terrell Fountain 3 pointer.  Ray Adams was then fouled twice and hit on three of his four free throws to give the Jackets a 98-92 lead with 26 seconds remaning.  Anoka's Nashiem Lozier hit a three with 20 seconds remaining to pull the Ram's back to within three (98-95).  Adams was fouled again with 18 seconds to go and calmly sank both free throws to give the Jackets a 100-95 lead.  On the ensuing inbounds play a turnover by Anoka lead to a Jerome Cunningham layup to seal the deal and send the Jackets home with the win.

Adams lead an extremely balanced RCTC attack with 24 points off the bench.  The Jackets had 5 other players join Adams in double figures: Kong Kong (18), Karmoga Lero (16), Devin Melzer (16), Jerome Cunningham (12), and Elijah Flernorl (10) all had big nights. Lero was 4-7 from beyond the arc while Adams hit 9-11 from the free throw line and Melzer was 7-8 from the charity stripe.

Leading the way on the glass once again was Kong with 10 rebounds.  The Jackets shot 53% from the field and hit on 9-19 (47%) from three point range.  RCTC had 43 total rebounds compared to 30 for Anoka.

The Yellowjackets conclude the regular season this Saturday at MN West at 3:00pm.  With a win RCTC, could secure the Southern Division #2 seed in the upcoming Region Tournament.
