Rochester, MN - The RCTC men's basketball team got the New Year started this past weekend with two tough games against Division II schools at the DCTC Classic. The Yellowjackets dropped an 89-61 decision to North Dakota State College of Science on Friday night before bouncing back with a 79-64 win over the host Dakota County Technical College. The win over DCTC avenged a loss in the Jackets second game of the season.
In the opener against NDSCS the Jackets could not find their shooting touch as they hit on only 36% from the field, including only 2-14 (14%) beyind the arc. The Yellowjackets also had 21 turnovers in the game. Leading the way for RCTC was Kong Kong with 12 points on 5-8 shooting to go along with a team high 7 rebounds.
Game two told a completely different story as the Yellowjackets, who trailed by two at the break, outscored DCTC 45-28 in the second half for the win. The Jackets hit on 40% of their shots in the game, but the big difference came in 32% (7-22) shooting from beyond the arc and only 13 turnovers. RCTC had three players score in double figures, as Antonio Maddox lead the way with a season high 21 points. Maddox was 8-14 from the field and hit on 5-8 3-point attempts. Joining Maddox in double figures were Kong Kong (15) and Jerome Cunningham (10). The Jackets pulled down 52 rebounds as they controlled the glass all afternoon. Kong lead the way with 11 boards. Mickey Jah and Jerome Cunningham lead the way with 5 assists each as the Jackets assisted on 24 of 29 made baskets.
The Yellowjackets (11-2) start divisional play this week, as they travel to LaCrosse, WI to take on Western Tech on Wednesday, before hosting Ridgewater this Saturday at 3:00.
