Rochester, MN - The RCTC men's basketball team ran their win streak to five games this past weekend, as the Yellowjackets swept through the MCAC crossover with 2 wins. Day one saw RCTC down Hibbing Community College in a hard fought 80-76 ball game, while day two saw another closely contested tilt as the Jackets dropped Rainy River 71-65.
Against Hibbing it was the duo of Mark Manyuon and Karmoga Lero leading the way for the Jackets as Manyuon dropped in 18 and Lero added 17 points on the day. The two were a combined 15-20 from the field. Joing them in double figures were Kong Kong with 12, and Ben Opsahl with 10. The Jackets shot 47% from the field while Hibbing hit at a 43% clip. RCTC outrebounded Hibbing 48-36 and had 10 steals to Hibbing's 5. HCC kept the game close by hitting 11 three-pointers (40%) while the Jackets hit on only 4.
Day two it was sophomore point guard Naa'il Mahdi's turn to shine as he dropped in 20 points on 7-9 shooting. Mahdi also had 7 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal on the day. Joining Mahdi in double figures was once again Karmoga Lero as he scored 15 points to go along with 7 rebounds. Mark Manyuon lead the Jackets with 10 rebounds while Ben Opsahl added 5 assists to lead RCTC.
RCTC shot 47% from the field for the second game in a row while holding RR to 39%. RCTC hit on 9-21 three-pointers (42%) and 8-17 free throws (47%). RCTC outrebounded RCC 42-33.
The Yellowjackets put their winning streak on the line as they head to the Anoka Ramsey Classic this weekend. The Jackets take on Dakota County Technical College (9-2) at 3:00 on Friday and then Bismarck State (4-5) at noon on Saturday.
The Jackets fell earlier in the season to the Blue Knights 81-65, while Bismarck State is averagining nearly 100 points per game...
