RCTC men down MN West to keep playoff hopes alive

Worthington, MN - Despite her best efforts mother nature could not prevent RCTC from taking on MN West this past Saturday afternoon in Worthington.  With their playoff hopes on the line the Yellowjackets played an outstanding second half downing the Jays 72-62.  With the win the Jackets need a win in the final game of the season tonight (February 26th) to secure the final spot in the MCAC post-season.

The Jackets trailed the Bluejays 33-34 at the break, but outscored MN West 39-28 in the second half to secure the win.  Sophomore guard Naa'il Mahdi hit for 19 points (including 10-15 at the line) and Karmoga Lero poured in 17.  Joining the pair in double figures were Tanner Jonas (10) and Eddie Oyet (10).

RCTC shot 42% from the field for the game while holding MN West to 37% shooting.  The Jackets also hit on 65% from the line (19-29) while the Jays hit on only 36% from the stripe (7-19).

RCTC outrebounded West 46-39 and had 18 assists (6 by Mahdi) compared to only 10 for West.

All eyes in the MCAC will be on the Sports Center in Rochester tonight as the final playoff berth will be decided.  With the weather delaying the final MCAC game of the regular season to tonight at RCTC, the Yellowjackets will be taking on MN State Fergus Falls with tip scheduled for 7:30pm.  A Yellowjacket win would send RCTC into the playoffs, while a loss would create a 3 way tie for the final spot, with Western Tech getting the bid by virtue of MCAC tie-breaking protocol.
