Rochester, MN - The RCTC men's basketball team used balance scoring and tough defense to down rival Central Lakes 90-66 tonight. In a game that saw both teams have four players in double figures scoring it was the RCTC defense and bench production that proved the difference. Both teams played identical halves of basketball (at least from the scoring side of things), with RCTC outscoring CLC 45-33 in both periods.
Rochester had four players in double figures lead by Jumah'Ri Turner with 16, Tyree Caruthers with 15, Michael Cornelious with 11, and Ray Adams adding 10. On top of those four perhaps the biggest difference in the contest was RCTC's bench production compared to CLC. The Yellowjackets outscored the Raiders 30-15 off the bench with Justin Wofford pouring in 9 while DJ Pettigrew and Kashif Hayes added 7 apiece.
In a hard-fought and tightly contested game early in the first half it was the RCTC defense that took over, stopping the Raiders on 5 consecutive positions near the end of the half leading to a 9-0 that gave RCTC the 45-33 lead at the half. It was RCTC's defense again forcing the action in the second half holding CLC to 33 points in the half and 37% shooting for the game. RCTC shot 56% from the field for the contest and had 25 assists compared to CLC's 6.
RCTC is right back in action on its home court on Saturday vs FonduLac at 3:00.
