RCTC football locks up playoff berth with win

Rochester, MN - The RCTC football team coming off a big Homecoming win that lead into a bye week had a lot of time to prepare for Saturday night's game versus Fon Du Lac Tribal and Community College, and that preparation paid off.  The Jackets held on for a 37-26 win under the lights at the Regional Stadium.  The win secured an MCAC football playoff spot for the Jackets.

It was a night of big plays for RCTC, and it all started with 5:41 remaining in the first quarter as Korean Gosha recovered a blocked punt in the endzone giving the Jackets a 6-0 lead. The second quarter belonged to wide receiver Gerald Sama as he caught two Justin Lynn touchdown passes.  The first a 30 yard strike with 11:03 remaining in the period.  The second was a pitch and catch that featured a jaw-dropping run by Sama.  He took a short pass and turned it into an 80 yard touchdown run, breaking multiple tackles on the way to the endzone.

Fon Du Lac made it interesting early in the fourth as they marched down the field and scored on a 13 yard TD pass with 11:54 in the game.  From there it became the Israel Lozoya show, as the Jackets kept the clock moving with a steady dose of the freshman running back, capped by a 31 yard touchdown run to seal the game.

For the game, Sama lead the way with 126 yards receiving and two touchdowns.  Lozoya had 15 carries for 137 yards and a touchdown, while Dixon had the other offensive touchdown for the Jackets.  Quarterback Justin Lynn threw for 283 yards 3 TD's and 1 interception.

Defensively the Jackets had three interceptions as Jaylen Lewis returned a pick 46 yards, while Kenny Nwachi and Ken Bohnenkamp each had INT's. The Jackets also got a fumble recovery from Larry LeCount.  Josh Miser lead the Jackets with 13 tackles and 2.5 sacks, while Keshon Williams added 10 tackles.  The Jackets got 1.5 sacks each from Ryan Erickson, Tobias Fogtmann, Nicholas James, and Prentiss Sayeweh, while Eric Snook picked up a sack as well.
