RCTC football drops heartbreaker to Mesabi Range 17-10

Rochester, MN - In a game that the RCTC Yellowjackets controlled for most of the day, it was Mesabi Range who took advantage of critical mistakes in dowing the Jackets 17-10 at the Rochester Regional Stadium on Saturday.

RCTC held large advatages in nearly every offensive category, but struggled in hanging onto the ball as Mesabi forced 6 turnovers, including 3 interceptions and 3 fumbles. The jackets actually fumbled 5 times, but were able to recover 2 of them.  Turnovers plus big plays lead to the eventual result.  RCTC's offensive output included 225 yards rushing and 326 yards in total offense.  Mesabi Range had 194 yards rushing and 268 yards total offense.

The Yellowjacket's Greg Henry returned to the lineup in style carrying the ball 22 times for 117 yards.  Cazz Martin added 50 yards on 4 carries, and Ben Thompson chipped in 41 yards on 10 tries.  Mesabi's Torrey Patterson ran for 105 yards including the decisive 76 yard touchdown run.

Trey Johnson had the Jackets lone touchdown on the day catching a 28 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Shane Fleury.  Fleury ended the day 4-13 for 45 yards, a touchdown and 2 interceptions.  While quarterback Michael Schimming threw for 56 yards and 1 pick.

On the defensive side of the ball, Peter Ongera and Keshon Williams each had interceptions, while Carter Fishbaugher had a fumble recovery.  Jamel Smith, once again lead the defensive charge picking up 14 tackles (3 TFL), and a sack.  Bangalee Bamba picked up 9 tackles and Anthony Harper added 7.  The Jackets had 3 sacks on the day, one from Smith, one from Dylan Dumarce, and a half sack each for Anthony Harper and Darius Smith.

The Yellowjackets are on the road this coming weekend, heading north to take on Itasca Community College, on Saturday, October 13th
